FEATURED PRESENTATION:

Who Controls Live Music? Antitrust, Independent Venues, and the Future of Tampa's Music Scene

Course Description:

This program will examine the legal and economic challenges facing the live music industry, including the Live Nation antitrust litigation, industry consolidation, and independent venue advocacy. Using the proposed Live Nation development in Ybor City as a local case study, the presentation will explore antitrust law, competition, and the legal issues affecting independent artists, venues, and the Tampa music community.

Speaker Bios:

Randy Ojeda is a Tampa-based music and entertainment attorney and founder of Randy Ojeda Law, where he represents artists, songwriters, producers, record labels, and music businesses in matters involving contracts, intellectual property, licensing, and industry disputes. Before practicing law, Randy worked extensively in the music industry as an artist manager, record label owner, musician, and A&R executive, including serving in Business Development and A&R at Symphonic Distribution. A graduate of Loyola University Chicago School of Law and the University of South Florida, Randy combines firsthand industry experience with legal expertise to help creative professionals navigate the business of music. He is also an active supporter of Tampa's local music scene through his work with Tampa Mixtape and other community initiatives.

Tom DeGeorge is a longtime music industry professional, independent venue operator, and advocate for live music. He is best known as the founder of Crowbar, the iconic Ybor City music venue he operated for 20 years. As Southeast Regional President of the National Independent Venue Association (NIVA), Tom has played a leading role in advocating for independent venues, including efforts to secure federal relief through the Save Our Stages initiative. He has testified before members of Congress regarding Live Nation and Ticketmaster's market dominance and its impact on independent venues. His work focuses on protecting independent music businesses, promoting fair competition, and preserving Tampa's cultural identity.
