FEATURED PRESENTATION:

Pot, Pistols, and Parental Rights-- 2025 Florida Law Year in Review

Course Description:

Florida courts were busy in 2025, issuing significant opinions on a broad range of issues affecting Florida residents' daily lives. These cases covered topics like when the state may be held liable for wrongdoing despite sovereign immunity, procedures for filing employment discrimination claims, and how HOAs can enforce their governing documents. Florida attorneys need to be aware of these changes and developing issues so they can properly advise their clients and advocate effectively for their clients' positions. The Florida Supreme Court was also busy with several significant opinions, as well as rules changes that every attorney must know. These rules amendments affect day-to-day practice in Florida's courts, and failure to comply could have severe consequences, including causing a client's case to be dismissed, sanctions, and even claims for legal malpractice. This course will provide a brief overview of what practitioners need to know.

Speaker Bio:

Sarah Roberge is an associate at the appellate law firm, Brannock Berman & Seider. In her first year there, Sarah briefed and argued a case at the Fifth District Court of Appeal, winning a reversal for her client on criminal wiretapping charges in a precedent-setting opinion. Sarah’s first job after graduating college was as a high school English teacher. Later, she worked at a large community association management firm, where she trained association board members and managed operations for several communities. Sarah then attended law school, on a full scholarship, while continuing to work part-time. During law school, Sarah received 14 book awards, interned at the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Florida, and ultimately graduated in the top 1% of her class. Before joining BB&S, Sarah was an Assistant Public Defender for the Thirteenth Judicial Circuit.
