Course Description:
Still in the wake of hurricanes Helene and Milton, Bay Area homeowners are starting to prepare for the 2025 hurricane season. But this year is different. Some are still working through claims and recovering from last year's damage. Others find themselves with difficulty finding insurance coverage. And the legal landscape has shifted. In this presentation, a panel of experts with many decades of property damage and insurance experience will discuss what you need to know about dealing with property damage and insurance claims in Florida, Florida law and local government changes, preparing for the worst and positioning yourself for the best outcome if you do get damage, and future events that could impact your rights.
Speaker Bio:
Debbie Sines Crockett is a shareholder in the Tampa office of Cheffy Passidomo, P.A. where she concentrates in construction disputes and litigation, insurance coverage matters, and commercial civil litigation. Debbie represents policyholders of all types of insurance policies against carriers. Before joining Cheffy Passidomo, P.A., Debbie was an equity partner of Boyle, Gentile, Leonard and Crockett, P.A. in Fort Myers. Among her many bar activities and memberships, notably, she is an executive council member of the Florida Bar Trial Lawyers Section, co-chair of the Florida Bar RPPTL Section’s Insurance & Surety Law Committee, and chair of the ABA RPTE’s Section’s Property, Casualty and Other Non-Title Insurance Committee. Over the years, Debbie has presented on numerous CLEs on insurance and construction law, to both local and national audiences, has written several articles on insurance law related topics, and is coauthor of A Practical Guide to Cyber Insurance for Business.
Gerald T. “Jerry” Albrecht is certified by the Florida Supreme Court as a Circuit Court Civil and Appellate Court Mediator. He is also a Qualified Arbitrator He is the President of Albrecht Mediation Services located in Tampa, Florida. Before he mediated cases, he tried them for over 30 years. He is a former Partner in the firm of Butler Weihmuller Katz Craig. While at that firm, he chaired the Property Insurance Coverage Department. His practice included the investigation, evaluation and litigation of property insurance claims, both homeowner’s and commercial. Jerry investigated, evaluated and litigated claims throughout the United States.
Jared Krukar is a career staff attorney at the Second District Court of Appeal and the only appellate staff attorney in the State of Florida to be board-certified in appellate practice. Jared is also an adjunct professor at the University of Tampa, teaching various classes in both law and ethics. As an attorney with a Florida appellate court, Jared reviews and analyzes both civil and criminal cases, including cases involving insurance disputes. He also previously worked in private practice dealing with insurance disputes.
A native of Tampa, Florida, Adria graduated from the University of South Florida and earned her law degree, cum laude, from Stetson University College of Law, with a concentration in Elder Law. Adria is a member of the Real Property, Probate and Trust Law Section of the Florida Bar, the Elder Law Section of the Florida Bar, the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys and the Academy of Florida Elder Law Attorneys. She has been practicing in the Tampa Bay Area for over 25 years. When hurricanes Milton and Helene hit, she had four feet of water damage in her property in Redington Shores. She brings real life experience to the issues we are discussing during this CLE.
