Jared Krukar and Duane Daiker presented "Firearm Ownership in Florida" to the NTBA in 2023—shortly after the Florida Legislature overhauled Florida firearm laws and a tragic homicide of a small firm attorney in his St. Petersburg office. More recently the shifting political winds have created renewed uncertainty for professionals from every background and personal protection is once again at the forefront of many professionals' minds.

In this presentation, Jared and Duane will provide a brief review and update on the laws that govern the who, what, when, where, and how to legally, ethically, and responsibly purchase, store, practice with, carry, travel with, and if necessary, use, a firearm. They'll also answer your more practical questions like what firearms or accessories you might consider and convenient places to purchase and practice in the Tampa Bay area.

ABOUT OUR SPEAKERS:

Jared Krukar

Jared Krukar is a career staff attorney at the Second District Court of Appeal and the only appellate staff attorney in the State of Florida to be board-certified in appellate practice. Jared is also an adjunct professor at the University of Tampa, teaching various classes in both law and ethics.

As an attorney with a Florida appellate court, Jared reviews and analyzes both civil and criminal cases involving firearm use and possession. This includes Florida's Stand-Your-Ground statute. He consequently has significant experience with the history and application of Florida firearm laws. Practically speaking, Jared is also a certified pistol instructor and a responsible firearm owner. He engages in regular practice and education to maintain and improve his own proficiency and safety. And he provides consultation and training on firearm use and ownership to attorneys and other professionals.

Duane Daiker

Duane Daiker is one of only a handful of board-certified appellate specialists in Florida. He is a recognized leader in the appellate community, and provides expert advice in all areas of appellate representation. Although he has a broad range of commercial and construction litigation experience, Duane’s passion is representing clients in the state and federal appellate courts. He regularly appears in all of Florida’s appellate courts, including the Florida Supreme Court.

Additionally, Duane is a certified pistol instructor, lifelong shooter, and a responsibly armed citizen. He has been writing gun, equipment, and training reviews for firearms publications since 2004, including Concealed Carry Magazine and Shooting Illustrated. He has become a serious student of concealed carry, and has trained with some of the best firearms instructors in the country.
