"Human Trafficking 101: An Introduction"

Human Trafficking is a multibillion-dollar criminal industry that harms millions of adults and children around the world, including children who are forced to commit crimes and then appear before judges in delinquency courts. Judge Bauman will introduce lawyers to O.P.T.I.O.N. (Offering Potentially Trafficked Individuals Options Now) court after providing the legal definitions of sex and labor trafficking and presenting ways to identify victims. By the end of the webinar session, participants will be able to 1) Define Human Trafficking, both sex and labor, 2) Identify victims of Human Trafficking, and 3) Create a court like O.P.T.I.O.N.
SPEAKER'S BIOGRAPHY:
Robert A. Bauman received his undergraduate degree in Political Science from the University of South Florida and his Juris Doctor from the University of Dayton School of Law. He was an Assistant Public Defender from November, 1985 to July, 1988, and then spent 28 years in private practice and was also a Florida certified mediator.
He was elected Circuit Court Judge in 2014, and assigned to the Juvenile Crossover Division in 2016. He is the Juvenile Division’s Associate Administrative Judge. His Crossover Division handles everything dealing with juveniles.
In October, 2019, he started a Juvenile Human Trafficking Court for victims called OPTION (Offering Potentially Trafficked Individuals Options Now) Court, which offers across the board services to victimized youth.
He has also spoken at numerous local, statewide, national and international seminars, presentations and panels regarding human trafficking, as well as juvenile delinquency.
As a side note, he was inducted into the Florida Athletic Coaches Association Hall of Fame in January, 2021.
