1 General CLE Credit
Richard M. Leisner is an experienced expert witness in complex litigation involving corporate, securities and business law issues, including legal malpractice.
An honors graduate of the University of Pennsylvania Law School, Richard began his career with a nationally prominent New York City law firm and eventually joined Trenam Law in Tampa. At Trenam Law, Richard has enjoyed a broad-based transactions practice dealing with virtually all stages of the life cycle for private and public companies and their leaders and owners. Richard is the firm’s senior securities lawyer and has been recognized in every edition of The Best Lawyers in America (1983-2020) [Corporate, Securities/Capital Markets, Securities Regulation and Corporate Governance Law].
In his transactions practice, Richard is experienced with start-ups, venture capital, private equity, Regulation D private placements, IPOs, ongoing public company obligations, corporate governance, officer and director fiduciary duties, executive employment agreements and equity-based compensation (stock options, etc.), M&A transactions, investment advisers, investment companies and SEC investigations.
Richard’s real-world experience – as an attorney and expert witness – is the foundation for his approach to expert witness assignments.
After numerous expert witness engagements, Richard knows the responsibilities of effective expert witnesses and has been tested in depositions and at trial. Richard has been engaged by both smaller and internationally prestigious law firms, bankruptcy trustees and receivers, Florida’s securities regulators and state’s attorney, the Securities and Exchange Commission and the Justice Department. Richard has provided expert witness services in more than 20 states across the country, in federal and state civil and criminal cases and arbitrations.
When business transactions go bad and litigation follows, the right expert witness is critical to a successful outcome. Because of Richard’s experience with business transactions and expert engagements, he will be familiar with the key issues in many business-related cases, especially if there are questions about the technicalities of federal or state securities laws or professional malpractice.
